When to Seek Emergency Care

Examples of situations that may require immediate evaluation include:

Difficulty breathing, choking, or blue or pale gums
Collapse, loss of consciousness, or extreme weakness
Uncontrolled bleeding, major wounds, or serious trauma
Seizures, repeated seizures, or sudden disorientation
A swollen abdomen, repeated retching, or severe abdominal pain
Possible poisoning or ingestion of medication or a toxic substance
Inability to urinate, especially with repeated straining
Severe eye injury, sudden vision loss, or intense pain

Suspected Poisoning?

Contact an emergency hospital and ASPCA Animal Poison Control immediately. Keep the product packaging or medication bottle with you if it can be handled safely.

Do not induce vomiting or give a home antidote unless a veterinarian or poison-control expert specifically instructs you to do so.
