We will give you instructions specific to your pet and procedure. These general reminders can help you prepare, but your veterinary team’s directions always come first.
Before Surgery
- Follow food and water instructions exactly.
- Ask which medications or supplements to give.
- Tell us about any new coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, or behavior changes.
- Keep your contact information current on procedure day.
After Surgery
- Provide a quiet, comfortable recovery space.
- Give medications only as directed.
- Use the recommended cone or recovery garment.
- Follow activity limits and inspect the incision as instructed.
When Referral Is the Safest Choice
Some procedures benefit from specialty training, advanced equipment, intensive monitoring, or overnight support. If your pet’s needs fall outside what is appropriate for our hospital, we will discuss the recommendation and help guide the next step.
